Obongi Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Samuel Mpimbaza Hasaka has issued a one-week ultimatum to leaders in Obongi district who have failed to repay borrowed Emyooga SACCO funds, warning them of arrest and prosecution. The funds were intended for a Boda Boda SACCO.

Emyooga SACCO leaders officially wrote to the RDC’s office complaining about the embezzlement of funds by those who borrowed and have stubbornly refused to repay them.

The RDC subsequently wrote to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) requesting that all civil servants and politicians be barred from borrowing Emyooga funds and that those who have already borrowed should refund the money immediately or face arrest.

During the handover of three motorcycles purchased by the Obongi constituency Emyooga Boda Boda SACCO in Lomunga parish, Gimara sub-county, the chairperson, Mr. Jimmy Dratia Kagwa, informed the RDC, Deputy RDC, and boda boda leaders that a leader in Gimara sub-county is among those who received Emyooga SACCO funds during the first phase, when they received 30 million shillings.

This individual’s failure to repay the loan has hindered the SACCO’s ability to purchase more motorcycles.

Last year, the chairperson of the Obongi constituency Taxi SACCO, Mr. Jomo, wrote to the RDC complaining about some district technical staff who borrowed SACCO funds over two years ago but have intentionally refused to repay them.

Also last year, RDC Samuel Mpimbaza Hasaka ordered the arrest of all leaders and civil servants who had borrowed Emyooga SACCO funds but failed to repay them. Over 30 civil servants, mainly teachers, were arrested and taken to Obongi Central Police Station.

RDC Samuel Mpimbaza Hasaka has now asked all SACCOs with unrecovered funds to write to his office and the police for immediate action. He specifically mentioned a councilor, identified only as “V,” who has not repaid borrowed Emyooga money from the Boda Boda SACCO.
