Apac Municipality – The political battle is now set, as Maruzi County MP Hon. Maxwell Akora has shifted his focus to Apac Municipality, aiming to become the next Member of Parliament in the 2026 general elections. As the countdown to the 2026 elections gets closer, Akora is determined to unseat the incumbent MP for Apac Municipality, Hon. Patrick Ocan, a fellow Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) representative in the Ugandan Parliament.
In an exclusive interview with our reporter, Hon. Maxwell Akora clarified that his decision to challenge Ocan aligns with the interests of UPC leadership. He stated that UPC believes Ocan no longer serves the party’s agenda and is instead favoring the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). Akora accused Ocan of now dancing to the tune of the NRM party alone.
“When Apac Municipality was created in 2018, UPC supported Ocan and helped him secure the parliamentary seat, a stance that continued during the 2021 elections,” Akora explained. “Up to now, the party has gained nothing positive from MP Patrick Ocan’s representation in the 11th Parliament.”
Akora further accused Ocan of working closely with Apac District Woman MP Hon. Betty Engola, who is an NRM member. He added that the political battle is far from over. Following extensive consultations with several stakeholders and UPC leadership, it was resolved that Akora should challenge Ocan, beginning with the party’s internal primary elections in Apac Municipality, which are expected to take place in the coming months.
Akora, who previously represented Apac Municipality, is confident in his ability to reclaim his former constituency from the incumbent, Ocan Patrick. He believes that with the party’s backing, he is more than ready to unseat Ocan in 2026.
Mr. Chris Ongom, UPC’s Regional Chairperson for Northern Uganda, confirmed to our reporter that the party plans to subject both Akora and Ocan to an internal primary election to determine the official UPC candidate for Apac Municipality in the upcoming 2026 general election.
In an exclusive interview with The Ankole Times last week from his residence in Apac Municipality, Akora vowed to unseat Ocan Patrick come 2026, asserting that he has what it takes to defeat him in terms of political resources.
When The Ankole Times attempted to contact MP Ocan three times by phone at 14:01 PM, using his Airtel number, he did not respond.
A 70-year-old resident of Apac Municipality, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed confidence that Hon. Akora Maxwell would win the upcoming election. He described Akora as “PRO-community” and a “real political bulldozer.”
