Minister for the Presidency and Budiope West Member of Parliament Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda has paid tribute to the late Rt. Hon. Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali, describing him as a true patriot, statesman, and peace advocate whose contribution to Uganda’s development shaped the nation’s history.
Speaking during a special sitting of Parliament held in honour of the former Third Deputy Prime Minister, Babalanda said Uganda was not only mourning a great leader but also celebrating the extraordinary journey of a man who dedicated more than five decades to serving the country and its people.
She described Gen. Moses Ali as a distinguished soldier, experienced politician, and committed public servant whose life was defined by patriotism, humility, and a strong belief in peace, unity, and national progress.
Babalanda noted that Gen. Ali’s long political career reflected the confidence and trust of the people of West Nile, having represented his constituents in Parliament for more than 20 years. She highlighted his election as MP for East Moyo County in 2001, his re-election in 2011, and his later service as representative for Adjumani West County from 2016 until his death.
The Minister said Gen. Ali’s continued electoral victories, including the confidence placed in him at the age of 86, demonstrated the deep respect and admiration he earned from the people he served. She added that Parliament will greatly miss his wisdom, experience, and calm approach to national debates.
She further praised the late leader for his role in promoting peace and reconciliation, saying his decision to abandon conflict and embrace dialogue by joining the National Resistance Movement under President Yoweri Museveni’s leadership marked a significant turning point in restoring stability in West Nile.
According to Babalanda, Gen. Ali’s service to the NRM government and Uganda at large was characterized by loyalty, dedication, and a commitment to building a united nation. She said his ability to bring people together earned him respect across political divides and made him a mentor to many leaders.
On behalf of the Office of the President, Babalanda conveyed condolences to President Yoweri Museveni, the First Family, Gen. Moses Ali’s family, and the people of Adjumani and West Nile. She urged Ugandans to preserve his legacy by embracing patriotism, peace, humility, courage, and selfless service, as the nation bids farewell to the “Cock of Adjumani.”
