Kole District, Uganda  – The Lango sub-region has received a substantial 1.6 trillion Ugandan Shillings (UGX) in infrastructure investment from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government since 2021, according to Kole North Member of Parliament (MP) Honourable Samuel Opio Acuti.

Speaking on Monday, April 14, 2025, during a meeting with the Kole District NRM Executive Committee at the NRM district offices, Hon. Samuel Opio Acuti, who also serves as the secretary general of the Lango Parliamentary Group (LPG), stated that the sub-region is currently benefiting from high-value infrastructure projects totaling 1.577 trillion UGX.

MP Acuti highlighted key ongoing projects, with the Akii Bua Stadium project leading at 477 billion UGX (approximately $129 million USD). This is followed by the construction of the 100.1 km Apac-Lira road at 416 billion UGX and the 90.1 km Rwenkunye-Apac road at 337 billion UGX.

The rehabilitation of the 189 km Soroti-Dokolo-Lira-Kamdini road is another significant project, valued at 331 billion UGX. Several other notable projects include the Kole-Gulu-Nebbi electricity transmission line, with a portion in Lango, costing $100 million USD (370 billion UGX), and the recently commissioned satellite laboratory at Lira Regional Referral Hospital. Additionally, the 375 km Tororo-Kumi-Soroti-Lira-Kole-Gulu railway line is undergoing rehabilitation at a cost of 199 billion UGX, with works completed up to Kumi.

“If these other projects are added, the planned investments exceed 1.6 trillion UGX,” stated Hon. Opio Acuti. He further attributed these achievements to the close collaboration between the Lango Parliamentary Group and the NRM government.

MP Samuel Acuti added that this investment figure is expected to increase later in the year with the commencement of the construction of the Corner Ayer-Corner Aboke-Iceme-Bobi AFCON road and the Masindi Port bridge.
