Kampala — Former Kawempe North parliamentary candidate, Faridah Nambi, has found herself in a difficult position after the very witnesses she presented in court appeared to contradict her claims against incumbent MP Elias Nalukoola.

Nambi, who lost the race to Nalukoola in the recent elections, had filed an election petition challenging the validity of his victory. In her submission, she accused Nalukoola of orchestrating several electoral offenses — including voter bribery and staging abductions with the help of Joint Anti-Terrorism Taskforce (JATT) operatives to win public sympathy.

She further alleged that Nalukoola distributed money and household items such as posho, sugar, and soap in exchange for votes, campaigned on polling day, and unlawfully interfered with the operations of electoral officials.

However, her case took an unexpected turn when her own witnesses took the stand and gave testimonies that directly contradicted her accusations. One witness, expected to confirm the bribery claims, stunned the courtroom when he said, “I saw no bribery. Nalukoola’s campaign was peaceful and orderly.”

Sources close to the proceedings say Nambi appeared visibly unsettled by the statements, which cast doubt on the strength and credibility of her petition.

Legal analysts now suggest that the chances of the petition succeeding have significantly diminished, especially as the burden of proof lies with the petitioner. With her witnesses undermining her arguments, it remains unclear how Nambi will recover the narrative or prove her case before court.

The development has sparked mixed reactions among political observers and Kawempe North constituents, many of whom now see the petition as unlikely to succeed.

As the court proceedings continue, attention remains fixed on how the remaining hearings will unfold and whether any new evidence will emerge to support Nambi’s claims. For now, however, the tide appears to be strongly in Nalukoola’s favor.
