Lango Celebrates as St. Gracious Students Represent Uganda at International Chemistry Olympiad in Brazil

Lira City, Uganda –– A wave of excitement and jubilation has swept through the Lango sub-region and Northern Uganda as three talented students from St. Gracious Secondary School (SAGRAS) in Lira City East Division embarked on a journey to Brazil for the prestigious “International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad.”

The students’ departure was recently marked by a special send-off ceremony at the school premises. The guest of honor was the Hon. Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, who was also officiating the school’s students’ patriots pass-out ceremony.




Speaking to the press during the flag-off event, held at Gracious Palace Hotel, the school’s director, Dr. Patrick Olet, confirmed the students’ scheduled departure on Saturday. He expressed his confidence in their abilities, stating his belief that they would return with valuable new knowledge and inspiring innovations.




Dr. Olet also extended his gratitude to Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero for her insightful and encouraging words to the students. He highlighted the Minister’s emphasis on the importance of science subjects and discipline as crucial elements for future success, which she shared with the hundreds of students present at the flag-off ceremony.




The Headteacher of St. Gracious Secondary School, Mr. Ojok Marthin Anyuru, lauded the parents, teachers, and the school director, Dr. Patrick Olet, for their unwavering support towards the school’s academic progress and overall development.

In related news, St. Gracious Secondary School has distinguished itself as one of the top-performing schools in Uganda, consistently benefiting from government sponsorships at various public universities. Mr. Elem Leo, the principal of St. Gracious School, expressed his immense pride in the school’s growing recognition on the global academic and scientific stage.

Adding to the celebratory atmosphere, Mr. Ben Okello, a 50-year-old parent from Adegaronya cell, Boke ward, Lira City East Division, expressed his deep appreciation for Dr. Olet’s efforts in significantly improving the academic performance of students at both primary and secondary levels within a short period.




Further demonstrating the community’s appreciation, Ms. Imat Okello Jane, the LC1 of the area where the school is located, commended Dr. Patrick Olet for his generous donation of a brand new motorcycle and 6 million UGX, wishing him abundant blessings.
