Kole District, Uganda – Kole Woman MP, Hon. Judith Alyek, has been elected Chairperson of the Kole District NRM Women’s League, defeating Apio Peace Bridget in the party’s internal elections held on Friday, May 23, 2025, at the district headquarters.
In the decisive vote conducted through lining up, Hon. Alyek garnered 50 votes, while her rival, Apio Peace Bridget—a journalist turned politician—received only 3 votes.
Hon. Judith Alyek, who also serves as Chairperson of the Lango Parliamentary Group, expressed gratitude to the women who overwhelmingly supported her. She also expressed confidence about winning again in the upcoming NRM Woman MP primaries.
A total of 53 delegates were registered to vote in the Women’s League election, though two delegates were absent during the voting exercise. The event was widely viewed as a significant political milestone for Hon. Alyek.
According to Professor Joseph Ogwal Oyuku, the Kole District NRM Registrar, the election was free and fair, noting that Hon. Alyek received the highest number of votes among all mainstream candidates.
“I declare Hon. Judith Alyek as the duly elected NRM Women’s League Chairperson,” said Prof. Oyuku, as jubilant supporters in yellow attire erupted into celebration. Many pledged their continued support, promising to back her in the upcoming general elections as the NRM flag bearer for Woman MP.
Speaking to the media after her victory, Alyek attributed her win to merit and God’s grace, adding that she did not run a formal campaign. She called on NRM delegates in Kole District to prioritize unity and reconciliation as the party prepares for future elections.
“I urge all delegates and members to work together. Let’s focus on unity for the good of the party,” she said.
A supporter named Jane, aged 40, expressed strong confidence in Alyek’s continued leadership, claiming no one could unseat her from Parliament. She also alleged that rivals from within Alyek’s own extended family had been “planted” to challenge her, but insisted that “the syndicate shall not work.”
Another supporter from Okwerodot Sub-county, who spoke on condition of anonymity, praised the district registrar for conducting a transparent and credible election.
Hon. Alyek has since vowed to organize a grand thanksgiving ceremony in appreciation of the women who voted for her “massively and on merit.”
