NAKAPIRIPIRIT, Uganda – Minister of State for Gender, Labour and Social Development, Hon. Esther Davinia Anyakun, has reportedly told her NRM party rivals in Nakapiripirit to “go to hell” if they are aggrieved by her campaign strategy.
The Minister expressed strong confidence, predicting an 80% victory in the forthcoming NRM primaries for the Nakapiripirit Woman MP flag.
Anyakun has gained significant support ahead of the NRM primaries, despite accusations of intentionally avoiding joint party campaigns. Addressing these allegations, she reiterated that her detractors “should go to hell” if they genuinely feel aggrieved, asserting that some of them lack substantial public support.
The Minister highlighted her accomplishments during her tenure, including successful disaster response and preparedness initiatives, as well as the implementation of government programs such as the Disaster Risk Reduction Initiative Project (DRDIP), Parish Development Model (PDM), and Emyooga.
She pointed out that voters have assured her of their support for her return to the 12th Parliament, indicating a drastic increase in her supporter base over the past two days. Anyakun asserted that she is the preferred candidate for the Woman MP seat.
Before her current portfolio, Anyakun served as the State Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness, and Refugees. She emphasized Nakapiripirit’s susceptibility to frequent hazards and disasters, requiring significant humanitarian assistance.
Anyakun stated that her consistent efforts as a lobbyist, working day and night to create wealth and eradicate poverty in the Karamoja sub-region, resonate with the people of Nakapiripirit, who see her as a solution to their district’s challenges.
Speaking to The Ankole Times on Friday morning, Minister Anyakun reiterated her unwavering confidence, stating that despite insults and being “taken for granted,” she expects an 80% victory in the July 17, 2025 primaries. She affirmed her determination to secure the Nakapiripirit Woman MP seat in the 12th Parliament of Uganda.
Furthermore, she urged the people of Nakapiripirit to continue supporting the NRM government’s initiatives to reduce disaster risks and famine, advocating for integrated risk management and activated contingency plans within development frameworks.
Meanwhile, Nakapiripirit RDC George Owanyi has advised all candidates vying for various NRM flag-bearer positions to adhere to the electoral rules. Among the contenders for the Woman MP flag is radio presenter Lopuwa Lilly, who is also reported to command a notable percentage of the vote.
According to Lomilo Augustine, an official monitoring the voting process during the NRM primaries in Nakapiripirit, the process is currently proceeding smoothly without any violent incidents.
