Kampala – Intelligence agencies have launched a full-scale investigation into city tycoon John Ssebyala, the owner of New Best Hotel, following the mysterious deaths of three young women allegedly linked to prostitution and human trafficking.
According to sources within ISO (Internal Security Organisation) and Crime Intelligence, the victims — aged between 20 and 30 years — were reportedly lured from various regions across Uganda and neighbouring countries, including Rwanda, Kabale, Kisoro, Hoima, Ankole, Tororo, and Kampala, under the guise of securing high-paying job opportunities.
Upon arrival in Kampala, the young women were instead introduced to commercial sex work at New Best Hotel, a lodging facility located in the city suburbs. Reports indicate that the three victims died under unclear circumstances, raising serious concerns among security agencies and triggering a confidential investigation.
Sources reveal that senior police officers from Natete and Busega Police Stations are also being scrutinized for allegedly attempting to cover up the incident.
“There is evidence suggesting that the case was suppressed from the public and swept under the rug to protect influential individuals,” a source familiar with the matter said.
Investigators have reportedly recovered CCTV footage from the hotel premises, believed to contain disturbing scenes of what takes place behind closed doors. “The footage will be critical in building a case once the investigations are concluded,” a security insider confirmed.
At this stage, no official arrests have been made, but the hotel and its management remain under close surveillance. Authorities are now working to identify other victims and possible human trafficking networks tied to the establishment.
The probe highlights growing concerns over exploitation and the illegal sex trade in Kampala, often masked by promises of employment to vulnerable young women.
Further updates are expected as investigations progress.
