The Uganda Police Force has officially told off Kampala city tycoon and educationist, Prof. Badru Kateregga, stating it has no legal authority to evict his estranged wife, Jolly Shubaiha Kateregga, from their shared matrimonial home.

According to a statement issued on July 25, 2025, the Police revealed that Prof. Kateregga filed a complaint in November 2024, claiming that he had received death threats at his residence, which led him to vacate the home for safety reasons. He then sought Police intervention to have his wife forcibly evicted from the property, which she currently occupies with their children.

However, the Police clarified that after conducting a full investigation, the matter was referred to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for legal guidance. The ODPP advised that the dispute centered on property ownership and family disagreements — matters which fall outside the jurisdiction of the Police and are instead the responsibility of civil courts.

“The complaint involved issues of matrimonial property and personal conflicts, which are civil in nature. The Police has no mandate to enforce evictions in such cases without a court order,” read part of the Police statement.

The force further emphasized that it respects the rule of law and advised Prof. Kateregga to pursue redress through the courts of law, which are best suited to handle family and property-related disputes.
