The spokesperson of the Bamasaba cultural institution, Mr. Steven Masiga, has pledged to mobilize Bamasaba clan chairmen and ministers within the cultural institution to participate in the upcoming Joshua Cheptegei Marathon, scheduled for November 1.
The marathon will be flagged off in Mbale City, with various categories including a 5-kilometer, 10-kilometer, and 30-kilometer run. These races will follow designated routes within and beyond the city.
Major sponsors and partners of the event include UNDP, UBA, and the Ministry of Tourism, among others.
Mr. Masiga pledged to mobilize both the young and elderly to participate in the marathon. He emphasized that, as a cultural institution, they fully associate themselves with the event. He also appreciated the Joshua Cheptegei Foundation for giving the cultural institution a central role in the organization of the event.
“Once you involve us, we equally get involved and mobilize our people. We shall use all media platforms—both manual and electronic—to reach out and encourage participation,” Masiga said.
He expressed strong support for the sub-themes of the marathon, which include the promotion of tourism, environmental conservation, and healthy living. He emphasized that marathons like this serve as a form of medicine for both the young and old, promoting wellness and community engagement.
“Let us run for environmental sustainability, let us run for tourism, and let us run for the needy,” he urged.
Masiga also extended his appreciation to the Joshua Cheptegei Foundation Chairman Mr. Kuka, CEO Mr. Abraham Kiplimo, Madam Winnie, Tourism Officer for Mbale City, and all other organizers of the event.
