Police in Mpigi District have arrested Jajja Ivan Muwanga, a well-known witchdoctor in Kamengo, over allegations of kidnapping and sacrificing of 12 children
According to local authorities, Muwanga was apprehended after an attempted abduction involving a young girl, Proscovia Nassazi, who managed to escape and raise an alarm that alerted her family. Her parents immediately reported the incident to police, leading to Muwanga’s arrest.
Following his detention, officers conducted a search at his shrines. Investigators say they recovered items and evidence that linked him to several missing-child cases. Police are also reviewing reports suggesting that more than a dozen children may have been victims of his activities.
Residents expressed shock, saying Muwanga frequently held social gatherings at his shrines and often invited community members to attend. Many now believe those events may have been used to divert suspicion from his alleged illegal practices.
Police say investigations are ongoing, and more details will be released as inquiries continue.
