Six officials from Rubanda District have been arrested by the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) over alleged corruption involving UGX 107,688,900 meant for agricultural inputs.
The suspects were picked up during an early morning operation in the district and later transferred to the Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala to face charges.
Those arrested include Steven Buregyeya, a Senior Treasurer; Benon Kahangi, District Production Officer; Sixtus Ahabwe, Assistant Veterinary Officer; Owen Atuheire, former Assistant Inventory Management Officer; Wilson Kwizera, Assistant Agricultural Officer; and Pamela Musimenta, Assistant Agricultural Officer. All are attached to Rubanda District Local Government.
Authorities say the funds in question were allocated for the procurement and distribution of agricultural inputs intended to benefit farmers in the district.
Resident District Commissioner Eric Ssewandigi confirmed the arrests and said investigations into the matter have been ongoing for two years.
“Investigations have been ongoing, and today’s operation is the result of the evidence gathered,” Ssewandigi said. “Government funds meant to support farmers must be protected and used for their intended purpose.”
He added that three other officials linked to the case are still on the run.
“We are still looking for three more suspects. They will be apprehended and brought before court,” he noted.
The arrests have drawn attention in the district, with residents calling for accountability and transparency in the management of public funds.
The IGG has in recent years intensified operations targeting misuse of government resources, especially funds meant for service delivery and community development.
The suspects are expected to appear before court as investigations continue.
