Man Dies After Drinking Joint Fight in Amolatar

A 54-year-old man is in police custody in Amolatar District following a violent altercation at a drinking joint that left a 40-year-old man dead.

The incident occurred on Sunday in Kabangala Village, Kabanga Parish, Muntu Sub-county, according to the North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson, Jimmy Patrick Okema.

Police identified the deceased only as Elwange. Reports indicate that he was involved in a dispute with a friend, Denis Ayoki, at the drinking joint. Witnesses say the two men quarreled before the situation turned physical.

During the altercation, Elwange reportedly sustained serious trauma to his groin. After the fight, he went to rest but was later found unresponsive. He was pronounced dead shortly afterward.

The suspect, whose identity has not been officially disclosed by police, was arrested and is currently being held in custody to assist with investigations.

A murder case has since been registered at Amolatar Central Police Station. Police officers visited the scene, documented evidence, and recorded statements from witnesses who were present at the time of the incident.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances that led to the fatal confrontation. The body of the deceased has been taken for a postmortem examination as part of the inquiry.

Police have urged members of the public to resolve disputes peacefully and avoid violence, especially in social settings where alcohol is involved.
