The Recording Academy has announced that the nominees for the 66th Grammy Awards will be unveiled on Friday, November 10, 2024. This edition of the Grammy Awards is noteworthy because it introduces three new categories: Best African Performance, Best Alternative Jazz Album, and Best Pop Dance Recording.
Two artists, namely Eddy Kenzo and GNL Zamba, are potential contenders for these nominations, especially Eddy Kenzo, whose critics have questioned the role of luck in his career. Eddy Kenzo received a Grammy nomination last year in the Best Global Music Performance category for his collaboration with Matt B in the song “Gimme Love.” This year, his 19-track album, “Blessings,” has been submitted for consideration, which may lead to his inclusion in the list of nominees for the 2024 Grammy Awards.
However, Eddy Kenzo and Matt B were unable to secure the award last year, losing to South Africa’s Wouter Kellerman, Zakes Bantwini, and Nomcebo Zikode for their song “Bayethe.”
On the other hand, GNL Zamba’s journey began with his induction into the Grammys member class of 2023, allowing him to participate in the selection process of Grammy nominees and winners. His song, “Hustle and Motivate,” released this year, is among the songs considered for the 2024 Grammy Awards. If successful, GNL Zamba will earn a nomination. He enthusiastically shared this news with his fans on Instagram last month.
The inclusion of new Grammy categories, such as Best African Performance, is a response to the evolving musical landscape, embracing diverse genres like Afro pop, Afrobeats, Amapiano, Bongo Flava, Genge, Kizomba, Ndombolo, Kwassa, Mapouka, and Ghanaian Drill.
Chart Data, a digital news platform, reported that 122 songs have been submitted for the Best African Music Performance category.
The 66th Grammy Awards are scheduled for Sunday, February 4, 2024.
