APAC, Uganda — As other districts across the country are celebrating the impact of UgIFT-funded projects, the people of Apac District are crying out for UgIFT projects to help in establishing seed secondary schools and water and irrigation systems.
UgIFT stands for Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfer Program. The program is a Government of Uganda initiative, backed by the World Bank, designed to improve the adequacy, equity, and management of funds sent to local governments.
The program focuses on funding essential decentralized services in education, health, water, agriculture, and refugee hosting.
According to the available information, Apac District has only one seed secondary school under UgIFT in the entire district.
Mr. Emmy Ejuku Olaboro, the Chief Administrative Officer of Apac, confirmed the development, saying Apac District needs affirmative action towards development.
He said Apac District has only benefited from one seed school under UgIFT since the inception of the project.
“We need the UgIFT program in Apac more than any other district because, when you look at the entire district, we only have one seed school since the inception of the project.”
He said the district has six sub-counties and a town council that need seed schools.
The six sub-counties include Apoi Sub-county, Chegere Sub-county, Akokoro Sub-county, Ibuje Sub-county, and Teboke Sub-county, all without secondary schools.
