Missing Bushenyi Woman, 77, Found Dead in Water Pond

Bushenyi District — Police in Bushenyi are investigating the suspected drowning of a 77-year-old woman whose body was discovered in a water pond after she had been reported missing for nearly a day.

The deceased has been identified as Jadrace Nyinesafari, a resident of Kijumo II Cell, Kabale Parish, Kakanju Sub-county in Bushenyi District.

According to police, Nyinesafari left her home on the night of June 9, 2026, and her whereabouts remained unknown despite efforts by relatives and community members to trace her.

The search came to a tragic end on June 10 when local authorities received information at around 5:00 p.m. that a body had been found floating in a water pond within the area.

Greater Bushenyi Regional Police spokesperson SP Apollo Tayebwa said officers responded to the scene and conducted a preliminary examination of the body.

“The body was found in a water pond, and preliminary findings revealed no visible injuries,” Tayebwa said.

Relatives informed police that the deceased had reportedly been battling a mental health condition for the past 10 years, a factor investigators are considering as they seek to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.

Police retrieved the body and transported it to the KIU Teaching Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
