In Kanungu District, there is an ongoing police investigation into the death of a 40-year-old retired teacher named Justus Besigensi. The incident occurred in Nyakijojwa village, Nyakijojwa parish, Kanungu district.
Besigensi’s body was found by his wife, Agatha Tugumisirize, who works as a nursing officer at Katete Health Center III. He had reportedly taken his own life by hanging himself with a rope. Tugumisirize immediately reported the incident to the Katete police.
Tugumisirize disclosed that her husband had been struggling with mental illness, which had led to his termination from his teaching position at a private school in 2022.
Elly Maate, the spokesperson for Kigezi Region Police, has confirmed the incident. A postmortem examination was carried out at Katete Health Center III, but specific details from the report were not provided.
Maate also mentioned that the deceased’s body has been released to his relatives for burial.
