In a game three matchup in the National Basketball League (NBL) finals on Wednesday night, the KIU Titans showcased remarkable teamwork, clinching a crucial 70-68 victory against the City Oilers. The contest, covered by Isaac Akugizibwe, took place at the KIU Main Campus.

This victory places the Titans at a 2-1 series deficit, setting the stage for an intense battle in game four on Thursday, where they aim to even the series.

During Wednesday’s game, the Titans capitalized on the City Oilers’ lapses and skillfully managed the clock, turning the tide in their favor. The Titans’ exceptional defensive plays, particularly in critical moments, played a pivotal role in their victory. Notably, every player on the Titans’ roster contributed at least two points or more, marking a significant improvement from their performance in the first two games.

Innocent Ochera stood out as the game’s top scorer, amassing 18 points, combined with his quick and agile ball movement that proved unmatched by their opponents. Team Captain Joseph Chuma, contributing 11 points and nine rebounds, drew the spotlight with his impressive shot-blocking that had fans enthusiastically cheering his name. Peter Obleng made a crucial impact with eight points, including six three-pointers, and eight rebounds. Amisi Saidi Danny, although not at his best, chipped in seven crucial points, while point guard Joel Lukoji added eight points to the tally.

For the first time in the finals series, the Titans excelled in three-point shooting, making eight threes out of 30 attempts (26%), as opposed to the Oilers’ four successful attempts out of 20 (20%).

Coach Julius Lutwama showed great trust in his bench, which did not disappoint, contributing an impressive 30 points, overshadowing the City Oilers’ bench, which managed only 16 points.

The victory on Wednesday rekindled confidence among the Titans and their enthusiastic fan base, which turned out in large numbers at the MTN Arena in Lugogo.

As they look ahead, the Titans are determined to level the series in Thursday’s game, rekindling their championship dreams.

In a parallel development, the KIU Rangers found themselves on the losing end of game three, with a three-point deficit, leaving them trailing the JKL Lady Dolphins 2-1 in the series. They aim to bounce back in game four, also scheduled for Thursday evening.
