Inspector of Police (IP) Thomas Otim, who serves as the head of the Professional Standards Unit in the West Nile Region, has been released from custody due to a lack of substantial evidence implicating him in aggravated defilement allegations. Otim had been detained at The Arua Central Police Station last week following accusations of defiling the daughter of Dr. Charles Madrama, the West Nile Regional Police Surgeon stationed at Arua Central Police Barracks.

The alleged incident occurred on October 9, 2023, within the premises of Arua Central Police Barracks in Police cell, Bazar Ward, Arua Central Division, Arua City.

Josephine Angucia, the West Nile Police Spokesperson, has confirmed that Otim was released from the Arua Central Police Station (CPS) cells on Monday. She explained that the decision to release him came after the Resident State Attorney recommended closing the case file due to insufficient evidence during the review for legal advice.
