Iryn Namubiru Opens Up on Family Rift and Painful Past- Says She Hasn’t Spoken to Her Mother in Over a Decade

Ugandan singer Iryn Namubiru has revealed that it has been 11 years since she last spoke to her mother, following a painful fallout linked to her arrest in Japan in 2013.

Namubiru, who was arrested at Narita International Airport after being found with 2.5 kilograms of banned substances hidden in her luggage, shocked fans when she disclosed that her own mother was allegedly involved in the plot.

“It broke my heart to find out that my own mother had negotiated the deal and added drugs into my bag, fully aware of the risks,” Namubiru revealed. She added that she still has recorded evidence of her mother’s conversations with the people behind the scheme.

The celebrated singer spent weeks in Japanese detention before being acquitted when investigations confirmed she had no knowledge of the drugs planted in her luggage. At the time, her ordeal made international headlines and nearly ended her career.

Since then, Namubiru has kept her distance from her mother, saying the betrayal cut too deep. “It’s been over a decade without communication. That pain is something I still carry,” she noted.

The revelation comes shortly after the release of her memoir, “Her Story, Iryn Namubiru,”in which she details not only her rise to fame but also her struggles, including the Japan incident, family betrayal, and survival in the music industry. The book has been hailed for its raw honesty and courage in confronting painful truths.

For many fans, Iryn’s story is a reminder of the dark side of fame and the resilience required to overcome betrayal from even the closest of family members. Despite the heartbreak, she continues to perform and inspire, turning her scars into lessons for others.
