Fame Without Values is Dangerous, Charles Peter Mayiga Warns Uganda’s Entertainers

KAMPALA, Uganda — The Katikkiro of Buganda Kingdom, Charles Peter Mayiga, has urged entertainers across Uganda to remain humble and responsible despite attaining fame, wealth, and public admiration.

Speaking during a public engagement in Kampala, Mayiga cautioned artists against arrogance and reckless lifestyles, stressing that success should not make them abandon the values of respect, discipline, and humility.

He noted that many entertainers begin their careers with strong morals and close ties to their communities, but often change their behavior once they gain popularity and financial stability.

“Fame and money should not change who you are,” Mayiga said, emphasizing that the public closely observes the conduct of celebrities and often imitates their behavior.

The Katikkiro encouraged musicians, actors, comedians, and social media influencers to serve as positive role models capable of inspiring young people through integrity, hard work, and responsible conduct, rather than controversy and misconduct.

He also advised entertainers to plan for the future by investing their earnings wisely and avoiding unnecessary conflicts that could damage their careers.

Mayiga observed that the entertainment industry has become one of Uganda’s fastest-growing sectors and plays a significant role in shaping culture, identity, and public conversation among the youth.

His remarks come amid ongoing public debate about celebrity behavior, social responsibility, and the influence of entertainers on Uganda’s younger generation.
