Museveni Leads Early 2026 Presidential Race With Landslide in Online Poll

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is already showing strong momentum in the early race for the 2026 general elections, according to a recent online poll shared on social media.

The survey, which attracted over 70,000 participants, placed Museveni in the lead with 51% of the votes, slightly above the threshold needed to secure an outright victory and extend his rule into an unprecedented eighth term.

The results almost mirror the 2021 general election, where Museveni won with 58.6%, while his closest challenger Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, garnered 34.8%.

In the current poll, Bobi Wine maintains a strong second position with 36.8%, showing he still commands a significant support base among urban and youthful voters. However, the gap between him and Museveni remains notable.

Other contenders, such as ANTleader Mugisha Muntu, registered 10.7%, a modest but meaningful share that suggests his appeal among moderate and reform-minded voters. On the other hand, opposition politician Nandala Mafabi trailed with just 1.4%, reflecting the challenges smaller opposition figures face in mobilizing national support.

While online polls may not always reflect the final outcome, the emerging pattern suggests that the 2026 race could closely resemble the dynamics of the 2021 elections—with Museveni in a commanding lead, Kyagulanyi as the main challenger, and other figures struggling to break through.
