AMOLATAR, Uganda – The Electoral Commission has formally cleared Mr. Peter Okodo to contest for the Member of Parliament seat representing Kioga North constituency in Amolatar district, setting the stage for his campaign under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party flag.
The nomination, which took place on Wednesday at the Amolatar District Electoral Commission offices, was met with celebration from a crowd of supporters, signalling the official start of the campaign season in the constituency.
Addressing the gathering after receiving his nomination certificate, a visibly elated Okodo outlined a comprehensive vision for Kioga North, centering his platform on good governance, infrastructure development, and a direct assault on poverty.
“Today marks not just a political nomination, but a covenant between me and the people of Kioga North,” Okodo declared. “I am presenting myself as a servant leader, dedicated to ushering in an era of effective service delivery and transparent governance. Our constituency deserves tangible results, not empty promises.”
Okodo’s campaign pledges are strategically focused on key issues affecting the lake-side district. He promised to prioritize the improvement of road infrastructure, which is crucial for trade and mobility, and to lobby for better healthcare and educational facilities.
“The fight against poverty is a fight we must win together,” he emphasized. “I will champion programs that empower our farmers, support our youth with skills, and create sustainable economic opportunities for everyone in Kioga North. My position under the NRM umbrella will be instrumental in ensuring our constituency is not left behind in national development plans.”
His message resonated strongly with his supporters, who see his candidacy as a fresh impetus for development in the area.
“Peter Okodo understands our struggles here—the poor roads, the lack of clean water, the need for jobs,” said one supporter, Ms. Annet Auma. “He has a clear plan, and we believe he has the energy and the will to bring the change we need.”
The nomination paves the way for what is expected to be a competitive race. As the NRM flag-bearer, Okodo carries the backing of the ruling party, a significant advantage in the political landscape. However, he will still need to convince the broader electorate of his ability to translate his promises into actionable results.
With the campaign period now officially open, the people of Kioga North constituency can expect a period of intense engagement as Peter Okodo and other candidates present their manifestos, aiming to secure a mandate to represent them in the next Parliament.
