Presidential Campaigns to Commence on Monday 29th After EC Harmonization of Candidates

Kampala, Uganda – September 27, 2025:

Uganda’s 2026 presidential race has taken an orderly turn after all eight duly nominated candidates agreed on a joint campaign timetable designed to avoid clashes during the election period.

The agreement was reached at the Electoral Commission headquarters on 7th Street, Industrial Area, after two days of negotiations between the candidates’ representatives. The discussions, which began on Friday, September 26, and concluded Saturday afternoon, resulted in a signed memorandum of understanding committing each candidate to follow the harmonized program.

Among the candidates whose agents took part are President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni (NRM), Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) of NUP, Nandala Mafabi (FDC), Mugisha Muntu (ANT) and the rest of the other candidates. Each will now campaign on different dates and in different districts, eliminating the possibility of confrontations.

Electoral Commission spokesperson Julius Mucunguz said the outcome was an important achievement for the country’s democratic process.

“We congratulate the candidates and their agents for reaching this milestone peacefully. This agreement will ensure a calm and organized campaign season,”he noted.

Mucunguzi further appealed to candidates and their supporters to uphold discipline, respect one another, and put Uganda first.

“We want campaigns free from violence, hate speech, and abuse of social media. Above all, this should be a campaign period that reflects pride in our country,” he added.

With the campaign trail officially opening on Monday, September 29, Ugandans can expect to see the candidates spread across the country under a timetable carefully coordinated to guarantee peace and fairness.
