Social media blogger Ritah Kaggwa has claimed that National Unity Platform (NUP) politician Eng. Balimwezo has been assured of a top party position in case he fails to win the Kampala Lord Mayor race.
According to the blogger, trusted sources revealed that the party has promised Balimwezo a slot in the mobilization department, a role said to come with a monthly pay of Shs25 million and other allowances.
However, Kaggwa notes that this alleged arrangement has reportedly caused discomfort among some party officials — particularly Habib Buwembo, the current NUP Chief Mobilizer — who is said to be uneasy about the reported plan.
Sources further say that Balimwezo is aware of the political mountain he faces as he takes on incumbent Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, who still enjoys sympathy from many Kampala residents, including hawkers affected by the Nakivubo Channel redevelopment.
Despite Lukwago’s strong base, the race could be tighter than expected. Insiders reveal that Lukwago is also uneasy about Balimwezo’s growing strength, especially after his former Personal Assistant, Deo Mbabazi, crossed over to join Balimwezo’s campaign team — a move said to be weakening Lukwago’s grassroots structures in parts of the city.
The Kampala Lord Mayor race is shaping up to be one of the most heated contests ahead of the #UgDecides2026 elections.
