Uganda to Host Global NAM Meeting at Munyonyo

Uganda will next week host the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Ministerial Meeting at Speke Resort Munyonyo from October 13 to 16.

The meeting will bring together Foreign Ministers and delegates from over 100 countries to discuss how developing nations can work together to achieve peace, growth, and fair global cooperation.

This follows the successful NAM Summit that Uganda hosted in January 2024, which brought world leaders to Kampala under the same movement.

Main focus

The meeting will run under the theme “Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence.”

Leaders will talk about key global issues like the conflict in Gaza, poverty, climate change, and the need for reforms at the United Nations to give developing countries a stronger voice.

Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni, who currently chairs NAM, is expected to be praised for his leadership and efforts to keep the movement active and relevant.

Why it matters

The Non-Aligned Movement was formed decades ago to unite countries that didn’t want to take sides during the Cold War. Today, it remains an important platform for nations in Africa, Asia, and Latin America to speak with one voice on global challenges.

Hosting this meeting gives Uganda another opportunity to show its growing role in international diplomacy and its commitment to peaceful cooperation.

Public note

Authorities have said there will be controlled access around Munyonyo during the meeting and have asked the public to follow traffic guidelines.

For Uganda, this gathering is more than a conference — it’s a moment to show the world that the Global South can come together, speak up, and shape a better shared future.
