The 30th Uganda International Trade Fair was officially launched by the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister of Uganda, Robinah Nabbanja, at the Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) Show Grounds in Lugogo. This event aims to promote local manufacturers and enhance trade opportunities within the country and beyond.
The launch event saw representation from the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) senior management, including Commissioner for Strategy and Risk Management, Allen Nassanga; Commissioner for Customs, Asadu Kisitu Kigozi; and Commissioner for IT and Innovation, Robert Mutebi. Their participation highlights the importance of the manufacturing sector in contributing to Uganda’s economy.
Before the official launch, Commissioner Nassanga participated in a community radio session where she expressed gratitude to taxpayers in the manufacturing sector. She acknowledged their significant contribution, noting that they accounted for 21% of total tax revenue in the last financial year 2023/24. This contribution underscores the vital role that local manufacturers play in the nation’s economic growth.
During her address, Nassanga encouraged taxpayers to take advantage of the current penalty and interest waiver program available until December 31, 2024. This initiative is designed to support taxpayers in settling their obligations without incurring additional financial penalties.
Nassanga also invited taxpayers to visit the URA tax hub, which offers tax education and advisory services. This hub serves as a resource for taxpayers seeking guidance on their tax responsibilities and how to optimize their contributions to the national revenue.
