38 Arrested in Budaka Over Forged Academic Documents During UPDF Recruitment

Budaka, Uganda — A total of 38 individuals were arrested on Thursday at the Budaka District Headquarters for allegedly presenting forged academic documents during the ongoing Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) recruitment exercise in the Bukedi region.

The arrests bring the total number of individuals apprehended since the start of the recruitment drive to 53, as authorities intensify efforts to ensure integrity and transparency in the selection process.

Speaking at the recruitment centre, Brig. Gen. Michael Ssozi Ssesanga, who is overseeing the exercise, urged all candidates to present original and verifiable academic documents.

He emphasized that the UPDF recruitment process is running smoothly and warned that any attempts to cheat or manipulate the system would not be tolerated.

“We are committed to recruiting qualified and disciplined individuals. Anyone attempting to use shortcuts, including forged papers, will be arrested and prosecuted,” Brig. Gen. Ssesanga stated.

He further commended local leaders and district officials for their support and cooperation, which he said has been instrumental in maintaining order and efficiency throughout the exercise.

The UPDF recruitment is part of the national effort to bolster the country’s defence forces and provide employment opportunities to qualified Ugandan youth. The exercise continues in other parts of the Bukedi region and across the country.
