Police in Kyankwanzi District have arrested five suspected cattle thieves following an operation conducted on Wednesday in collaboration with sister security agencies. Among those apprehended are Vincent Oneno Ssegawa, Fred Kenge, Ronald Ssebunya, Farouk Kaguliira, and one identified only as Kalyango alias Younger.

According to Racheal Kawala, the Wamala Region police spokesperson, the arrests came in response to numerous complaints from local cattle farmers who have been victims of theft in the district. Kawala stated that these suspects have been long sought by the police for their alleged involvement in terrorizing the farming community.

During the operation, authorities also seized a Toyota Prado vehicle believed to have been used by the suspects in the execution of their crimes. Kawala noted that some of the arrested individuals, including Farouk Kaguliira, had previous records of cattle theft and had recently been released from Masindi government prison after serving a three-year sentence for similar offenses.

The police spokesperson emphasized that efforts to apprehend other individuals involved in the cattle theft network are ongoing.
