The boys immediately alerted the area chairperson of Kanabizo Cell in Ntungwa Parish, Nyamirama Sub-county. The chairperson then dispatched his local defense officer, David Kasigeire, to report the incident to the police.

Kigezi Region police spokesperson, Elly Maate, confirmed the incident. He stated that the crime scene was promptly visited, examined, and documented by police. The body was retrieved and transported to the mortuary at Kanungu Health Centre IV for postmortem examination.

Maate noted that the body appeared fresh, suggesting that the murder likely occurred earlier that same day before being dumped in the river.

Police are urging anyone with a missing female relative to visit the health center mortuary to help identify the deceased so that she can be given a dignified burial.

Investigations are ongoing to determine those responsible for the killing and the motive behind the crime.
