Police in Kanungu District are investigating the suicide of a 41-year-old man who was found hanging in a room at the home of the area chairperson.
Abel Tugumizemu, a resident of Nyabihoko cell, Nyamigoyi parish in Kanyantorogo sub-county, visited the home of Benson Rwabihogo on October 21, 2023, and expressed concerns about being followed.
Rwabihogo provided Tugumizemu with a room to spend the night, intending to address the issue in the morning. However, the following morning, Tugumizemu was found hanging in the same room.
Police spokesperson for the Kigezi Region, Elly Maate, confirmed that the police were notified, visited the scene, and retrieved the body from the rope. A postmortem was conducted at Kanyantorogo Health Center 3, and the body was subsequently handed over to relatives for burial.
Maate said that inquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of the hanging.
