One-Year-Old Boy Murdered in Mbarara: Police Launch Investigation

Mbarara City – The Police in Mbarara City are investigating the tragic murder of a one-year-old boy at Kijungu Lodge in Central Cell, Nyamityobora Ward.

The incident occurred on January 2, 2025, at around 2:00 a.m. The child’s mother, Namara Evelyn, a 29-year-old sex worker, left her son sleeping in her room to visit a bar approximately 1 kilometer away. Upon her return at around 5:30 a.m., she discovered her son lying in a pool of blood with his neck cut.




Horrified, Namara immediately raised an alarm, waking other residents, including the lodge manager. The lodge manager promptly notified the police. Officers responded swiftly, arriving at the scene to examine the crime scene, document evidence, and gather information from witnesses. Two individuals have been arrested to assist with the ongoing investigation.




The child’s body was transported to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.




Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson, Superintendent of Police (SP) Samson Kasasira, urged the public to exercise caution when leaving their homes unattended.

He emphasized the importance of securing their homes properly and entrusting the care of children to reliable neighbors, especially during the late hours.
