MBARARA, Uganda — Police in Mbarara City have rescued 15 more youths suspected to have been recruited into the controversial Global Alliance In Motion (AIM) networking scheme, bringing the total number of victims rescued over the past two weeks to 325.
The latest operation was conducted in Kakoba Ward, Mbarara City South Division, where the youths were found living in a residence under what authorities described as poor and unfavorable conditions.
According to the Mbarara City South Division Police Commander, SP Kenneth Kabwigo Gumisiriza, the victims had allegedly been lured to Mbarara with promises of employment opportunities, only to find themselves trapped in difficult circumstances.
Police believe the youths were recruited under false pretenses and are now investigating the individuals behind the alleged scheme. Authorities have intensified operations to identify and apprehend those responsible for recruiting vulnerable young people with promises of jobs and financial success.
SP Gumisiriza said arrangements are underway to reunite the rescued youths with their families. Most of the victims are reported to come from the districts of Wakiso, Jinja, and Mukono.
The rescue operation is part of an ongoing crackdown on the suspected activities of Global Alliance In Motion in Mbarara City. Police say investigations are continuing and have urged members of the public, especially job seekers, to exercise caution when responding to employment offers that appear too good to be true.
Authorities have also called upon parents and guardians to verify information about job opportunities before allowing young people to travel long distances in search of work.
With the number of rescued victims now standing at 325, police have vowed to continue their operations until all those involved in the alleged recruitment network are brought to justice.
