Unidentified Body Recovered from River Rwizi, Police Investigate Suspected Drowning in Mbarara

MBARARA, Uganda – Police in Mbarara have launched a death inquiry after the body of an unidentified adult male was recovered from River Rwizi on Thursday evening, sparking an investigation into a suspected drowning incident.

The discovery was made at approximately 6:30 PM on July 10, 2025, in Kasanyaraze cell, Kakoba ward, Mbarara City. Residents spotted the body floating near the Nyamitanga Bridge and promptly alerted authorities.




According to SP Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson, officers from Mbarara Central Police Station swiftly responded to the scene.




The body was successfully recovered and has since been transported to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination to determine the cause of death.




Police are urging members of the public who may have a missing person to contact Mbarara Central Police Station.

This appeal is crucial in helping identify the deceased and shed light on the circumstances leading to this tragic incident.
