The Uganda Police Force in KMP East and Kira Division are actively pursuing a suspect involved in the alleged murder of a woman at Silent Kireka Guest House in Kireka B zone, Kira Municipality. The incident occurred on February 10, 2024, at approximately 7 p.m. The suspect, who identified himself as Mike Bilnego, had reserved a room for a brief stay, paying Ugandan Shillings 5000, and was assigned room 2.
Around 11 p.m., the lodge attendant discovered room 2 open and illuminated. Upon investigation, she found the lifeless body of a brown-skinned woman lying face down on the bed, with blood emanating from her nose. The male customer, believed to be the suspect, was absent, and the victim’s handbag was found empty, devoid of any belongings. The incident was promptly reported to the police, who documented the scene and transported the victim’s body to the City Mortuary for post-mortem examination.
In a separate incident, authorities in Greater Masaka and Sembabule district are probing the murder of a sex worker identified as Nabasirye Mastullah. Mastullah had recently rented a room at Nalubega Betty’s rooms in downtown Sembabule town council. Her lifeless body was discovered on her bed, bearing signs of strangulation. She had relocated to the area just three days prior, having moved from Central ward, Lukaya town council in Kalungu district. Efforts are underway to identify the perpetrator responsible for this heinous crime.
These tragic events underscore the vulnerability of sex workers and other marginalized women to acts of violence, including rape, physical assault, and robbery. Law enforcement agencies urge individuals in such vulnerable positions to exercise caution when interacting with strangers, prioritizing their safety above all else.
