Stockholm Hosts Festive Buganda Day 2023

On September 28, 2023, the Scandinavian Diaspora came together to celebrate Buganda Day in Stockholm. The event took place at Folkets Hus in Stockholm, Sweden, and revolved around the theme, “Women are the pillars of Buganda development.” The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Scandinavia, Hon. Nelson Mugenyi, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Among the distinguished attendees were Hon. Sam Ssekajugo Musoke, the Ambassador of the Kingdom to the Netherlands, his Deputy Hon. Linda Ssekayita, Official Baker Kabugo William of Sweden, Hon. Martin Kalule of Seattle, USA, Kaggwa Edward Ndagala, President of the Kabaka Foundation, and Godfrey Sseruwu, the new President of the Kabaka Foundation in Scandinavia.

Leading the event was Olivia Nankya, the Women’s Representative of the Scandinavian Parliament. The program featured a series of workshops covering various themes, with expert instructors imparting knowledge about preserving culture and traditions. The workshop topics included “Wife and Marriage” by Mrs. Linda Kayita, “The Modern Woman” by Mrs. Leah Mutaawe, “Self-Development through Collaboration” by Mrs. Namuddu Janet Magato, “Young Girls Preserving Culture and Traditions in Sweden” by Dr. Aisha Nalusiba, “Water in Family Development” by Hajjati Mary Luyombya, and “What We Can Learn from Sweden.”

The celebration continued with lively entertainment, featuring traditional dances, drama, and singing performances led by Julie Heartbeat from the Netherlands, Jose Pro, and Big Solo from Sweden.
