Kole, Uganda — Wisdom High School in Kole District has once again performed very well, setting the record straight in the academic history after eight of its students achieved a perfect score of 20 points in the 2025 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations. The landmark results, released Friday by Hon. Janet Kataaha Museveni, Minister of Education and Sports, at State House Nakasero, have positioned the school as a national leader in secondary education and a beacon of excellence in Northern Uganda.
The school director stated that out of 438 candidates who sat for the 2025 UACE exams, Wisdom High School recorded exceptional academic achievements:
- 8 students scored the maximum 20 points
- 16 attained 19 points
- 21 earned 18 points
- 29 scored 17 points
- 51 achieved 16 points
- 55 secured 15 points
This represents not only a personal triumph for the learners but also a significant leap from previous years: six perfect scorers in 2024 and just one in 2023—the only 20-point candidate across Northern and West Nile subregions that year.
Ambrose Ogwal, the school’s Executive Director, hailed the achievement as evidence of deliberate, long-term investment in quality education. “These results are not accidental. They are the fruit of hard work, strategic planning, and a shared vision between our students, teachers, and parents,” Ogwal said, addressing staff, learners, and well-wishers during a celebratory assembly at the school.
Notably, six of the eight students who attained the perfect 20 points were from science-based combinations—highlighting the school’s growing strength in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). This success aligns closely with Uganda’s national agenda to transition toward a science- and innovation-driven economy.
Ogwal attributed the school’s upward trajectory to a combination of modern infrastructure, dedicated teaching staff, and a student-centered learning culture. Key pillars of this success include:
A fully equipped science laboratory, described as the largest in Northern Uganda, enabling hands-on experimentation and inquiry-based learning.
A well-resourced library that supports independent research, critical thinking, and academic curiosity.
ICT integration across classrooms, promoting digital literacy and interactive teaching methods through smartboards, tablets, and e-learning platforms.
The recruitment of 11 new teachers trained in the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), enhancing pedagogical delivery and subject mastery.
“The foundation of our success lies in creating an environment where both teachers and learners thrive,” Ogwal emphasized. “We’ve invested not just in bricks and books, but in building a culture of excellence—one where effort is recognized, potential is nurtured, and ambition is rewarded.”
Ogwal announced plans to transform the institution into a regional centre of academic excellence, serving high-achieving students from all parts of Uganda. “We are an academic giant,” he declared with pride. “Our goal is to produce leaders, innovators, and change-makers for the country.”
In a related development, the school has also launched the construction of the Wisdom Stadium—a multi-purpose 10,000-seater facility currently in the ground-levelling phase. The ambitious project, expected to be completed within a few years, will host national sports tournaments, cultural festivals, and academic conferences, further elevating the school’s status as a hub of regional development.
At the national level, the 2025 Wisdom High School UACE results reflect growing access to advanced education.
A total of 166,400 candidates registered for UACE exams countrywide, a 17.2% increase from 141,996 in 2024. Of these, 98.9% qualified for the UACE certificate, and 113,291 met the minimum university entry requirement of two principal passes.
Wisdom High School’s performance stands out as a testament to what is possible when vision, investment, and community commitment converge.
However, parents and education stakeholders have lauded the school’s achievement as a turning point for the Lango sub-region. “This is not just a win for Wisdom High School,” said one of the parents from Akalo Town Council, Kole District. “It’s a win for every child in Northern Uganda who now sees that excellence is within reach.”
The eight perfect scorers are already being celebrated as role models.
For Wisdom High School, the message is clear: from the heart of Kole District, a new era of academic excellence has begun and will continue.
