The veteran mobilizer and businessman urges ideological politics over propaganda, cites ongoing support for party candidates.
In a firm and resounding response to what he terms “fabricated and malicious propaganda,” prominent Lango businessman and political mobilizer, Mr. Geoffrey Etwop, has categorically refuted reports suggesting a shift in his allegiance from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
The rebuttal comes after a series of unverified claims circulated in local political circles, alleging that Etwop was offering support to opposition parties, including the National Unity Platform (NUP) and Uganda People’s Congress (UPC).
Speaking on the matter, Etwop dismissed the reports as entirely baseless, designed to tarnish his reputation as a steadfast member of the NRM. “My loyalty to the NRM, His Excellency President Yoweri Museveni, and the party’s principles is unwavering. I have sacrificed immense time, energy, and personal resources over the years to build the party’s support base in the Lango sub-region. These claims are not only false but are a desperate attempt by my detractors to create confusion where there is none,” Etwop stated.
He emphasized that the people of Lango are intelligent and can see through such tactics, advising all political actors to engage in the politics of ideology and development agendas rather than resorting to character assassination.
Etwop’s commitment, he notes, is demonstrated through action, not mere words. Contrary to the speculative reports, he has been visibly active on the ground, mobilizing voters for the NRM. He was recently seen campaigning for the Erute South MP aspirant and Presidential Advisor, Hon. Sam Engola, a key NRM figure in the region.
“My current focus, which is public knowledge, is to ensure that the NRM flag flies high in Lango. I am actively engaging with our people to rally behind capable NRM candidates like Hon. Sam Engola, who have a proven track record of delivery,” Etwop added.

Addressing the core of democratic engagement, Etwop underscored that leaders must present a winning agenda to the electorate. “It is the people who elect leaders. Therefore, our duty as mobilizers is to present leaders with a clear and winning agenda for development and service delivery. That is the ideology we should be debating, not peddling falsehoods about individuals,” he advised.
Political observers in Lango have noted that the dissemination of such false reports is a common strategy ahead of election cycles, aimed at weakening strong mobilizers for the ruling party. They point to Etwop’s long history of resource mobilization and grassroots campaigning for the NRM as evidence of his unwavering loyalty.
As the 2026 elections draw nearer, Etwop’s message remains clear: his dedication to the NRM is non-negotiable, and his efforts are squarely focused on ensuring the party’s continued dominance in the Lango sub-region through legitimate and issue-based mobilization.
