Kabale, Uganda — Kabale University is mourning the death of Apolot Maureen Gloria, a third-year student who passed away just days before her graduation.
Apolot was pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and was expected to graduate on October 31, 2025. The university confirmed her passing in a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account earlier this week.

According to family sources, Apolot, 30, reportedly died from tuberculosis, which later developed into meningitis.
Kabahinda Shanitah, her class coordinator, said the sad news was first shared by Apolot’s sister at around 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. She had been ill since August and was receiving treatment at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital, but her condition worsened in recent weeks.
Apolot was a resident of Damasiko Village, Damasiko Parish in Gweri County, Soroti District. She will be laid to rest on Sunday, October 19, 2025, in her home village.
Her passing follows other recent tragedies involving students at Kabale University. In 2024, final-year students Methodius Niwamanya and Osbert Natuhwera, both enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts in Education program, died in a motorcycle accident shortly before graduation. Another student, Byaruhanga Merekezedeki, was also killed in the same crash.
These repeated losses have left the university community deeply shaken, highlighting the emotional toll such tragedies have on fellow students, faculty, and families. As the university prepares for its upcoming graduation ceremony, many will be reflecting not only on achievement, but on lives lost too soon.
