Hon. Minister of Internal Affairs, Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, has urged the people of Lira City to vote for fellow minister, Hon. Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, who is the Minister of Health and doubles as Lira City Woman MP, in the 2026 general elections.

Otafiire also advised the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) to reconsider its alliance with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), rather than competing for a seat currently occupied by an NRM member in Lira City.

According to the Kyoga North County MP, Hon. Olobo James Dubai, he emphasized that the Lango people need the two female ministers because they are both very competent in terms of leadership.

Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng and Hon. Amongi Betty are both highly capable individuals, considering that Dr. Aceng was a Medical Superintendent at a large hospital, where she was noticed by the President and appointed as the Minister of Health.

She later entered active politics and was elected as the Woman MP for Lira City in the 11th Parliament.

While addressing thousands of Lira City residents on Saturday at Lira Town College playground, Hon. Aceng lauded H.E. the President for appointing her to the position of Minister in the Ministry of Health.

She also thanked the LUMBA Boda Boda fraternity for honoring her with the position of Patron in the LUMBA association.

Internal Affairs Minister Gen. Kahinda Otafiire advised the Minister of Gender, Hon. Betty Amongi Akena of the UPC and current MP for Oyam South, to focus on serving her constituents rather than attempting to challenge Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng in Lira City in the upcoming general elections.

Moses Okori, the Chairperson of LUMBA, emphasized the organization’s achievement of distributing over 8,000 motorcycles on loan since 2011.

Okori commended Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng for her instrumental role in facilitating the transition of their operations since the association’s formation.

He also confirmed that the MP for Lira City East Division, Hon. Jimmy Akena Micheal, had assisted them in acquiring several motorcycles from the onset before they transitioned to Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero.

The event was attended by a vibrant Minister Peter Ogwang, who enlightened the people of Lango on the progress of work on the Akii-Bua Olympic Stadium.
