Hotel Owners Urged to Upgrade Facilities Ahead of Imbalu Launch in Bugisu

Hotel owners in Mbale and surrounding areas have been urged to prepare for a major influx of high-profile guests ahead of the official launch of the Imbalu cultural ceremony scheduled for August 1.

The spokesperson of the Bugisu Cultural Institution, speaking on behalf of the organizing committee, confirmed that a special team has been formed to inspect and profile hotels that will host dignitaries expected from across the world, including the United States, Nigeria, Ghana, Indonesia, Togo, South Africa, Kenya, and other countries.

The guests are expected to include heads of state, royal majesties and highnesses, sultanate leaders, government ministers, state governors from neighbouring countries, and members of parliament from Uganda and abroad.

According to the organizers, the inspection process will focus on strict hospitality and security standards to ensure that all VIP guests are accommodated in suitable environments during their stay.

“We shall consider several factors, including hotel classification such as two-star and four-star status, as well as proven experience in hosting high-profile guests,” the spokesperson said.

Security has been highlighted as a key requirement, with hotels expected to meet Uganda Tourism Board guidelines, including 24/7 security coverage, privacy protection, and where possible, private VIP entrances. Luxury and soundproof suites have also been emphasized as essential for dignitaries.

The cultural committee, composed of several officials, is set to begin inspections immediately to assess compliance and suitability of accommodation facilities. Authorities stressed that both safety and prestige will be central in the selection process.

“These are guests of both the cultural institution and government. We cannot compromise on safety, security, status, affinity, and ambiance,” the spokesperson added.

Hotel owners have therefore been advised to take note of the requirements ahead of the launch.

Organizers also confirmed that a list of approved hotels will be released to the public at an appropriate time following the inspection exercise.

The Imbalu launch is expected to attract more than 500 high-profile visitors, with several West African cultural leaders already confirming their participation and submitting accommodation details.

The dignitaries are expected to stay in Bugisu for about a week, during which they will also engage with cultural and traditional leaders from Uganda and across Africa, marking one of the most significant editions of the ceremony in recent years.
