Police Arrest Four Suspected Criminal Gang Members in Overnight Amolatar Raid

AMOLATAR Police in Amolatar District have arrested four suspected members of a criminal gang believed to be behind a series of burglaries and thefts that have recently targeted homes and businesses in Amolatar Town Council.

The intelligence-led operation was conducted in the early hours of Thursday, 2nd July 2026, at Golden Gas Petrol Station in Inomo Cell.

The raid, which ran from 1:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m., was led by the District Police Commander (DPC) with support from territorial police officers in Amolatar.

The suspects have been identified as Okullo Steven, 20, and Aluli Brian, 19, both residents of Inomo Cell; Obura Gerald, 24, a student at Amolatar Secondary School; and Eling Paul, 25, a resident of Apalepe Cell in Amolatar District, originally from Dokolo District.

All four suspects are currently in police custody as investigators record their statements and gather further evidence. Police say investigations are ongoing and additional arrests are expected.

According to police, the operation was based on intelligence indicating that the suspects were part of a criminal network responsible for a string of burglaries and thefts that have caused concern among residents and business owners in the town council.

The latest raid is the third major security operation conducted in Amolatar District within the past month, reflecting intensified efforts by security agencies to combat rising criminal activity.

North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson SP PJ Okema said police will continue carrying out intelligence-led operations to dismantle criminal gangs operating within and around Amolatar Town Council.

“We shall continue with these intelligence-led operations to disrupt criminal gangs carrying out illegal activities within and around Amolatar Town Council. Our objective is to reduce crime and restore public confidence in the area,” SP Okema said.

Residents have welcomed the arrests, describing them as a positive step towards improving security.

Local leaders have also called on police to sustain the operations and extend them to neighbouring villages where similar crimes have been reported.

Police have urged members of the public to continue sharing information that could help track down other suspects believed to be linked to the gang.

Authorities say the suspects will be formally charged once investigations are complete, reaffirming their commitment to bringing all those involved in criminal activities to justice.
