Mbarara City, Uganda — The leadership of Mbarara City has officially handed over two construction sites for the building of new classroom blocks in a move aimed at improving education infrastructure and learning conditions in the city.
The handover ceremony was led by Town Clerk Justine Barekye, Deputy Mayor Priscah Mulongo, and Deputy Resident City Commissioner (RCC) City North Jackie Kankunda on Tuesday.
The two sites include Rucence Primary School located in Rukindo Ward in Mbarara South Division and Rwobuyenje Primary School situated in Kishasha Ward in Mbarara North Division.
City officials said the construction of the classroom blocks is part of ongoing efforts by the city leadership to expand and improve education facilities in public schools, which have been facing challenges such as overcrowded classrooms and inadequate infrastructure.
While overseeing the handover, Town Clerk Justine Barekye emphasized that improving learning environments for pupils remains a priority for the city administration. She noted that the new classroom blocks will help create a more conducive learning atmosphere for learners and teachers.
Deputy Mayor Priscah Mulongo also underscored the importance of investing in education infrastructure, saying that the development will contribute to better academic performance and the overall growth of the education sector in the city.
Deputy RCC City North Jackie Kankunda urged contractors to ensure quality work and complete the projects within the agreed timelines so that pupils can begin benefiting from the improved facilities as soon as possible.
The construction projects are expected to significantly ease congestion in classrooms and support the growing number of pupils enrolled in government primary schools across Mbarara City.
Local leaders and community members welcomed the development, saying the new classroom blocks will enhance the quality of education and provide a better learning environment for children.
