Former intelligence chief Gen. David Sejusa has criticised a viral photo of an NUP supporter in Luwero who appeared to mimic a sniper while perched on top of a building during Bobi Wine’s campaign rally. The supporter held a gun-like object made from yam fibres, a gesture that sparked debate online.
Sejusa condemned the act as reckless and dangerous.
“This is absolutely irresponsible,” he warned. “Mimicking armed soldiers aiming guns — whether using toys, bamboo or banana fibres — is very dangerous. Politics is serious business. Don’t turn it into a game.”
The retired army General also said that politics is a serious business hinging on the edge of life and death. He added thjat he doesnt see why the NUP SG found this funny to post whene the party supporters are always roounded up by security agencies.
“Politics is serious business, in many places, of life and death, why is it a game, a comedy to you? I see your group rounded up, etc by police, yet, it’s fun to you? And keep doing silly things which don’t add value at all?”
His comments followed a poster shared by NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya showing the supporter striking the pose.
The warning comes at a tense moment in the campaign season. In recent days, there have been several clashes between security forces and NUP supporters, including arrests, dispersals at rallies, and confrontations along processions. The party accuses security of heavy-handedness, while police say some supporters have acted provocatively.
Sejusa urged youths to avoid actions that could escalate tensions or be misinterpreted during an already heated political period.
