ENTEBBE, Uganda – The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), in partnership with the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO), is hosting the ICAO–CANSO System-Wide Information Management (SWIM) and Flight & Flow Information for a Collaborative Environment (FF-ICE) Workshop. The event is taking place from 2nd to 4th December 2025 at Protea Hotel Entebbe.
The workshop was officially opened by the UCAA Deputy Director General, Ms. Olive Birungi Lumonya, who highlighted Uganda’s ongoing advancements in digital aeronautical information exchange, modernization of meteorological (MET) data, and implementation of electronic Terrain and Obstacle Data (eTOD).
She noted that these developments form part of Uganda’s broader commitment to transforming Air Navigation Services (ANS).
Representing the ICAO Regional Director for the Eastern and Southern African (ESAF) region, Ms. Kezia Ogutu, emphasized the critical role of collaboration in advancing aviation systems.
“The importance of partnership cannot be overstated,” she said.
“There is a strong need for capacity building to prepare States for what is expected of them. This calls for working together, strengthening collaboration, and putting in place the proper structures.”
The workshop has attracted representatives from 15 States, including Angola, Burundi, Cape Verde, Cameroon, Congo, Ghana, Kenya, Namibia, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Togo, Tanzania, the United States of America, and Zambia.
Throughout the three-day event, participants will examine how SWIM and FF-ICE can enhance information exchange, improve interoperability, and support the transition toward trajectory-based operations across the African continent.
UCAA expressed appreciation to ICAO and CANSO for their continued partnership and thanked all delegates for attending the workshop in Entebbe, noting that their contributions are crucial in shaping the future of air navigation in Africa.
