Respond to the Forensic Expert’s Evidence, Not Smear Campaigns! Pr. Ssenyonga Tells Robert Kayanja in Ongoing Bumshafting Case

In a recent press statement, Pastor Jackson Ssenyonga of Christian Life Church challenged Pastor Robert Kayanja to directly respond to forensic evidence presented in court, instead of, as he claims, relying on bloggers and media narratives to defend himself in the ongoing sodomy case at Mwanga II Court in Mengo.

While addressing journalists, Ssenyonga said the focus should shift from what he described as “deliberate distortions” of court proceedings to the substance of evidence tendered before court by Uganda Police’s forensic expert Enock Kanene.

According to Ssenyonga, the expert witness presented material extracted from a phone belonging to one of the accused persons, Reagan Ssentongo (20) including WhatsApp messages, audio recordings and explicit images allegedly shared with a phone number said to be pastor Robert Kayanja’s.

He claims that the expert testified that some of the communications and said that certain audio recordings were analysed and found to be authentic.

Ssenyonga further stated that the expert indicated there were video files reportedly sent, though some could not be opened because they had been deleted, and therefore could not be fully examined in court. He added that the expert also referenced phone call interactions between the two parties, which he said were part of the evidence presented.

“The issue now should be for Pastor Kayanja to respond to this evidence before court, not to deflect through bloggers or distorted reporting,” Ssenyonga said.

He accused some media platforms, including Channel 44 which owned by Kayanja, and online commentators of misrepresenting the expert’s testimony by claiming that the evidence had been discredited or could not be authenticated. According to Ssenyonga, such claims are inaccurate and premature, noting that the trial is still ongoing and the expert witness is yet to be fully cross-examined.

Ssenyonga also rejected allegations linking him to the forensic process, including claims that he influenced the expert or had any personal connection to him, maintaining that the analysis was conducted by the Directorate of Forensic Services under the Uganda Police Force, and that the report was formally reviewed and submitted to court through official channels.

He reiterated that he is not a party to the case and denied accusations that he is pursuing Kayanja, saying the prosecution stems from a complaint attributed to Kayanja himself.

Ssenyonga warned that continued distortion of court proceedings risks misleading the public and undermining the judicial process, adding that he is considering legal action against individuals spreading falsehoods.
