The Nakifuma Magistrates’ Court in Mukono has sentenced three men to prison after they admitted to stealing money and traditional items from a shrine belonging to well-known witchdoctor, Hajji Habibu Ssezigu, popularly known as Nsikonene.
The convicts — Vincent Golooba, Zalcayo Oloka, and Musa Muwanga, all residents of Naggalama Town Council — were found guilty on Friday by Grade One Magistrate’s Court.
According to court proceedings, the trio staged a daring raid on Nsikonene’s home, making off with Shs50 million in cash and several traditional items. Among the stolen property were three drums, six bed sheets, three pots, and sacred horns (mayembe).
Despite his reputation as a feared traditional healer, the men showed no fear of possible supernatural consequences as they looted the shrine.
Police investigations later led to the recovery of one of the stolen horns from the home of one of the accused, which tied them directly to the crime and paved the way for their trial and conviction.
Hajji Nsikonene is a popular figure in Mukono, widely known not only for his spiritual practices but also for making headlines after marrying eight women and housing them under one roof.
The sentencing of the three men serves as a reminder that crime, regardless of its target, will be met with the full force of the law.
