100 Million Shillings Budget for Dr. Martin Aliker Burial on Sunday

The programme for the send-off of the late Dr. Martin Aliker, a prominent figure known for his contributions as a businessman, politician, and dental surgeon, has been announced following his passing on Monday. The government has allocated Shs100 million towards the burial arrangements as part of the commemoration of his life and legacy.

As per the schedule released by the government spokesperson’s office, Dr. Aliker will be laid to rest at Aworanga in Gulu City on Sunday. President Museveni has granted him an official funeral, which will include parliamentary recognition through a motion presented by the prime minister.

During the burial ceremony, a national anthem will be played, and Dr. Aliker’s coffin will be adorned with the national flag, symbolizing his service and dedication to the nation. Additionally, a condolence book will be available for signing at designated locations, including Uganda’s diplomatic missions abroad.

An appointed government representative will be present at the funeral to pay respects on behalf of the nation. The send-off proceedings will commence with prayers at Dr. Aliker’s residence at Summit View in Kololo, Kampala, between 10 am and midday tomorrow. The following day, a funeral service will be held at All Saints Cathedral Nakasero at 9 am before the body is transported to Gulu City.

Another funeral service will take place at St. Philips Cathedral Mican in Gulu City on Saturday, followed by a vigil at Aworanga where Dr. Aliker will lie in state. Finally, on Sunday, the late Dr. Aliker will be laid to rest in a ceremony befitting his contributions to society.

Born in 1928 in Gulu District, Dr. Martin Aliker was not only a distinguished businessman and dental surgeon but also served as a minister of State for Foreign Affairs from 1996 to 1999. He played a pivotal role in various corporate entities, including serving as the chairman of Monitor Publications Limited and facilitating its acquisition by the Nation Media Group. Additionally, he chaired numerous high-profile companies in Uganda and the region and enjoyed golf during his leisure time.
