Information reaching The Ankole Times newsroom indicates that Honorable Sarah Awor Angweri, the female workers’ representative of Lira City Council, is under pressure from a section of voters in Lira City to address the political situation by contesting either under the NRM party or as an Independent candidate.
A renowned city tycoon, who requested anonymity in this publication, informed The Ankole Times newspaper that he has set aside over 400 million ready to fund Sarah Awor Angweri’s political consultations, scheduled to commence on October 3, 2024, without fail. He stated that he, along with high-profile politicians from the NRM and historical tycoons from Lira, aims to ensure Awor becomes the next woman MP of Lira City in 2026.
The tycoon, reputedly among the richest individuals in the Lango sub-region with luxurious and expensive buildings in the city, has pledged two vehicles to support Awor’s journey to victory. Awor is also reportedly supported by a high-profile leader in the country who has pledged to print 600 collared T-shirts and 1000 collarless T-shirts for Awor’s political consultations.
When contacted, Honorable Sarah Awor Angweri stated that she is receiving numerous phone calls from voters in various areas such as Ireda, Junior Quarters, Teso Bar, Barogole, Angwetangwet, Senior Quarters, and Kakoge, urging her to appear on the ballot in 2026. She mentioned that two tycoons in Lira City have approached her in person regarding her political move for the 2026 Lira City woman MP seat. However, she emphasized that she is still consulting on when and how to make an official statement regarding the community’s demand for the 2026 general election.
Awor mentioned that individuals in Entebbe and Kampala have encouraged her to contest under the NRM ticket, while others have vowed to support her if she runs as an independent candidate in 2026. She concluded by stating that she will make an official statement on the matter very soon after extensive consultation.
